Terms of use

These terms cover the Fig Tree app and this website. By using either, you agree to them.

Not therapy, not a crisis service

Fig Tree is a journal. It is not therapy, medical advice, or a crisis service, and its answers are not a substitute for a professional. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number now. In the US, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Your journal is yours

Everything you record or write belongs to you. It stays on your phone, and we never receive it, so we claim no rights to it. You are responsible for keeping your phone secure and for exporting anything you want to keep, because there is no cloud backup.

Answers can be wrong

Transcripts and Reflect answers are produced by models running on your phone. They can mishear, misquote, or miss things. Reflect shows the entries it used so you can check. Do not rely on it for decisions that matter without reading the entries yourself.

Models and open-source software

Fig Tree uses third-party models and open-source software under their own licenses, which are listed in the app under Settings, About. Your use of those models is also subject to their licenses, including the Gemma Terms of Use.

Testing builds

Early versions are test builds. They may change, break, or lose data. Export your journal regularly.

No warranty

Fig Tree is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app or this website.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use Fig Tree after a change means you accept it.
